Apple to Generate $13 Billion in iTunes Revenue in 2013
Apple now has 3 online content-selling stores for their devices. iTunes, App Store, and the iBookstore. These 3 stores have been incredibly popular since their inceptions, and they generate tons of revenue for Apple, since they get a cut of all songs, movies, apps, or books downloaded from the stores. They are set to grow by 39% in the next 3 years provided a new, innovating company doesn’t come along, and in 2013 they are expected to generate $13 billion.
Analysts conclude that publishers are increasingly switching to the iBookstore from Kindle, as the result of surveys of students. These students would rather have an ebook on an Apple device, than on a Kindle. The App Store is also growing rapidly, despite competitors like Android. The App Store currently has 500,000 apps compatible with all iOS devices, and 100,000 optimized specifically to be used with an iPad. The iTunes music and movies store has always been popular with the labels, and with the consumers, as it provides an easy way to get content, and play it on multiple devices.
