iPad Reigning Over Chinese Market
Despite facing strong competition, it appears that the iPad is still the champion of all tablets when it comes to sales in China.
Last quarter, other tech companies such as Motorola, Lenovo, and Asustek Computer all began selling their own tablets in the Chinese market, however, their performance has been nowhere near the success rate of the iPad.
In total, 1.4 million tablets were sold in China during the second quarter, and the iPad made up 74% of those sales. That represents a huge lead, considering that second-in-place Android tablets only had 24.3% of sales.
These astronomical sales have helped Apple boost its revenues in China tremendously. In fact, revenue from tablets for Apple as shot up six times since the same quarter last year.
So why the enormous iPad fanbase? To put it simply, Apple is fashionable. Because it is an established brand for high-tech products, high-class Chinese often choose to buy iPads instead of other, less known brands.
However, there still remains one problem for Apple. The black-market in China is still taking away much of the companies profit. In fact, it was analyzed that out of all iPad 2 sales, only 53% came from authorized sellers. That means that almost half of the sales were done illegaly.
