More Apple iPads Sold Every 2 Weeks Than Motorola Tablets All Year
Once again, the iPad has reminded us that it is the supreme ruler and absolute dictator of all tablets.
But seriously, just how absurd is the iPad’s dominance? The title says it all. According to estimates of sales by both companies, the Apple iPad is expected to sell more in two weeks, than the Motorola Xoom will sell all year. (BTW, a year has 52 weeks if you were wondering.)
Yesterday, Motorola announced that it was expecting to sell 1.3 to 1.5 million Xoom tablets this year. According to statistics disclosed in Apple’s third quarter conference, the company sells pretty much that number of iPads every two weeks.
The question now arises as to why the Xoom performs so badly in sales compared to what was expected. At first, the Xoom was thought to be a great alternative to the iPad, operating on Android instead of iOS. However, it turns out that the Xoom didn’t have what it needed to sell. For one, being the first Android tablet, there were very few apps available. Also, the Xoom didn’t ship with 4G LTE or Android 3.X Honeycomb, meaning that it is running behind.
Android tablets still have a chance though, as there will soon be a large amount of new tablets coming in, with lots of possibilities for improvement.
