Windows 8 Mimicking Apple by Adding its Own App Store
It appears that after seeing the success of Apple’s App Store, Microsoft is also trying to enter the digital distribution business by making an app store of their own.
In a blog post earlier, Microsoft introduced the teams working on Windows 8. Interesting enough, the post listed an app store team, which pretty much confirms the earlier rumor starting when a Windows 8 screenshot included a “Store” button.
I think that an app store addition to the newest Windows would be a very strong move by Microsoft. Given the success that Apple has had with its App Store, Microsoft is smart to do the same.
The new Store is not the only change to Windows 8. From what we know, the newest Windows will be quite a bit different from its predecessors in the fact that it introduces a more tile-based interface – which is designed to support an easy touch interface.
It is not known yet whether Microsoft will actually call its new store “App Store”. After all, the name has been trademarked already by Apple, and so for the company has not been to happy with other companies using it.
