Lately, there have been strong rumors that Apple was planning to discontinue  two of the oldest iPod versions – the iPod shuffle and the iPod classic. Now, there is even more evidence to support that Apple may indeed be retiring the veteran devices – as a while ago, the company had suddenly removed access to iPod Click Wheel Games on iTunes.

iPod Click Wheel Gaming had already been on a long downfall since February 2009, when Apple ended developer support for the games and not a single new game popped up since. However, pre-existing games were still available until they mysteriously disappeared around 2 weeks ago.

The lives of the iPod classic and shuffle have been long and eventful, but Apple has since then moved on to different paths. With the introduction of iCloud, a large capacity device like the iPod classic may not be needed anymore and music and data can simply be stored on the cloud.

Also notice that the iPod classic did not receive any updates in Apple’s media event last year – despite Steve Jobs’ claim that the lineup was going to be “all new”.
