Mountain Lion OS X 10.8 Beta Gets Reminders Similar to iOS 5
If you take a moment and recall the number of features that iOS 5 brought to Apple’s mobile devices last year, you would remember that one of these features was a new app called “Reminders,” which allowed you to create, well, reminders for yourself that would be implemented with the new notification center brought in iOS 5 as well.
The first developer preview of Mac OS X Mountain Lion, the new Mac operating system to replace Lion which is currently still undergoing testing, brought reminders to Mac. However, if you were one of the developers that tested out this operating system, you would remember that only date-based reminders could be created.
With the second developer preview for Mountain Lion released on Saturday, an upgrade has been made to the reminder system in Mountain Lion. This upgrade brings the new concept of location-based reminders, which will utilize the internet to track your current location and activate reminders based on the location that it has detected.
Of course, with Apple’s introduction of iCloud last year, the reminders will be synced between your Mac and iOS devices, and location-based reminders can also be activated based on the location of your iPhone, iPad, etc. This is completely expected.
It can be debated how useful the location-based reminders for Mac will be though, as if you have an iMac then it’s really going to be no use at all (no way you’re going to be dragging that thing around!) Nevertheless, I am graciously accepting this feature when I upgrade to the new Mountain Lion OS.
