Facebook Aims to Build its own Smartphone, is Seeking Out Ex-Apple Employees
According to a recent report by from the New York Times, Facebook is engaging in its third attempt to build a phone with Facebook built especially in mind (Similar to how iOS had deep Twitter integration. In fact, Apple originally had deep integration for Facebook set in store for its iOS 4 operating system, but due to negative relations with Facebook, this was cancelled and a year later iOS 5 Twitter integration was set up.)
Anyways, this will have been the third time that Facebook has attempted to build such a smartphone. The company is currently seeking out ex-Apple employees, including engineers who have worked extensively with the development of the iPhone and iPad, to help create this new device. It has also been reported that Apple is working alongside Android smartphone giant HTC to create these smartphones.
With Facebook soon to hit 1 billion users throughout the world, and a good half of these users browsing the website via mobile devices, it must make sense for the company to make devices more integrated with Facebook features targeted towards these mobile users.
Maybe the third time is the charm, and Facebook will get the smartphone done right on its third try. Last year, a series of Android phones were released by HTC, called the Salsa and Status, that supported deep Facebook integration. According to sales reports, these phones were a huge fluke.
