For years, Mac users have been using Terminal, along with some apps, to customize the appearance of the Mac operating system. There are programs out there that can tweak the look of your dock, as well as customize dozens of other settings. One of these programs that has really stood out for OS X Lion is an app called “Lion Designer,” which is unique in that it offers a GUI (graphical user interface) to tweak the appearance of some Lion-exclusive features, such as Launchpad and Mission Control.

Apple seems to have an interesting habit of using real-life models for its default wallpapers. For example, the default wallpaper for the iPad is based off a real-live lake called Pyramid Lake.

As for the OS X Lion galaxy background, it was found that the picture was actually based off a picture of the Andromeda Galaxy taken by astronomer Robert Gendler.

A few weeks ago, we announced news that Apple was selling $69 OS X Lion USB drives through Applecare. Now, there is a high chance that Apple will be selling these USBs to the public, on August 15th. The product has reportedly shown up in the Apple internal system, and if anything, we can be sure that a release is imminent.

Earlier today, Apple released its newest OS X 10.7.2 pre-release update – Build 11C37 – to developers solely for testing with iCloud features. At the same time, Apple also released the seventh Beta version of iCloud add-on installer.

As usual, this pre-release update is targeted specifically at developers so that they can refine and test out the new features in association with their own software.

We at iTracki really like some interesting infographics, and we picked up on this one thanks to TUAW and thought we’d share it with you. The new file saving system in Lion is different from how it was in previous operating systems, so here are two nice infographics that show how saving used to be (The Age of the Dinosaurs), and how saving is now (The Age of the Lions). Hope you enjoy, thumbnails below, just click to enlarge.

Earlier today, Apple released its “Lion Recovery Disk Assistant”, which provides an enormously useful feature for Lion OS X Users by allowing them to create a Lion recovery partition on either a USB or external hard drive. This means that users will no longer need a physical disk to repair or reinstall Lion.

When the over 1 million people downloaded OS X Lion on launch day, few expected it to be Apple’s Vista (if you don’t get the joke, let’s just say that few expected it to run extremely slowly, much like Windows Vista did.) But a few users have been reporting a ton of Random Access Memory (RAM) being eaten up by a Safari process called “Safari Web Content.” This may be a bug for the new operating system, sometimes using up an entire gigabyte of RAM, with almost no tabs open in Safari. Obviously, with that much RAM being used by one process, the entire system would be extremely slow.

Here’s a story that you don’t hear every day, and I think its quite ironic. In WWDC 2011, we heard all about the Cloud, which gave us the feature to see all media that we downloaded from iTunes EVER, and redownload it all 100% free. Well now, an Apple customer was charged 122 times for OS X Lion. To the victim, John Christman, it probably doesn’t matter whether he has one or 122 copies of the same software. Oh except for the fact that one copy costs $29.99, while 122 cost $3,878.40. Damn.

Yesterday, we wrote a tutorial helping users find out which apps would not be compatible with OS X Lion. We mentioned that PowerPC apps were the biggest ones that would lose support, and now we’re here to update you that many of Freeverse’s games are also not going to be updated for Apple’s latest operating system. Why, you ask? Freeverse cites concerns that the gaming experience in Lion wouldn’t be as good as it was for their games in Snow Leopard, and therefore will not be updating many of its games for Lion.
