AppleInsider claims that one of its sources connected to Apple’s customer service has made an interesting discovery that could give us the date for the release of iOS 5.
Apparently, the hint comes from a warning to customer service that it should expect a huge increase in iOS support calls beginning October 10th.

This time, it comes in the form of an internal message by Sprint stating something about a blackout due to a major phone launch on September 30th-October 15th.

The new Intel processors are due to be released anywhere between November 14th to November 27th, which corresponds with a possible Macbook Pro release quite well.

If this report is true, than Apple could very well be aiming for a smaller battery to make a thinner design, or to make room for a potentially larger retina display screen. However, I would assume that the latter of the two arguments is probably the most likely.
