Scoot Pte, a Singapore-based airline, said that it took off 7% of the weight of its planes by ripping out their built-in entertainment systems and replacing them with iPads. For an airline, 7% is a really big deal, seeing that 35% of costs for the industry come from fuel. Instead, customers can pay USD$17 to rent an iPad that comes preloaded with music, games, movies, etc, for the duration of the flight. Customers that are riding business-class will be able to rent the iPad for free.
