iOS Review: TurtleFly
TurtleFly was an app made by Jerry Lee summer 2011. The highly addictive arcade style game of flying turtles. The funny graphics and even the app logo itself will draw you to the game at first sight. Two million people have already downloaded this game and it has a straight 5 star rating in the app store.
The game shows you as a wacky invention of Dr. Winston, who genetically modifies you, the turtle, to be able to fly. Lacking wings, you have a cola-powered rocket attached to you while you fly into the heavens in the ultimate goal of reaching Mars and all of the achievements.

Graphics:
The cartoon styled graphics are wonderful, although are lacking a little. You’re turtle’s face is the same no matter what happens to you during the game, which makes me slightly dislike the graphics. Other than that, the graphics are great and makes me want to play. The simplicity of the graphics don’t draw your attention away from the actual game play like other apps do. Overall, the graphics do add to the app rather than taking away the experience from it.
Gameplay:
Game play in the app is fun. As mentioned in the intro, you play as a genetically altered turtle with a rocket. You are a turtle, and you fly! As you fly in the game, there are diamonds, which give you money, red cola which gives you rocket fuel, and blue cola which gives booster fuel. Although the game looks very basic, it has some interesting obstacles in it. From the start it is a stationary blue blimp, and eventually you will see the harder obstacles such as the satellite and rocket ship. Throughout the game, every day (time you fly) you will earn money, which is used to upgrade the turtle’s equipment. The upgrades are a hat, which gives you increased defense as you hit something with your head, an engine, which you start with, and a booster which makes you faster and activates when you reach a certain speed, an extra shell, which lets you fly for a certain amount of time without using your actual fuel, increased fuel tank, air resistance, better control, discounts at the store, health, wind resistance, and a few less important things. The point of the game is to reach Mars and unlock a new animal. The money you gain from the achievements and the upgrades you buy all contribute to your ultimate goal.
A new feature in the 1.1 update allowed you to create the head of the turtle, whether by drawing it or taking a picture of your face if you have an iTouch 4g or iPhone. Overall the gameplay is very addictive.
Game Controls:
Controls are the only thing that really makes me grit my teeth with this game. The game gives you the option of using the tilt feature in the iOS or the touch. There are also tilt controls. The thing that makes me dislike the game controls is that although there is a control upgrade, you don’t really notice a difference after you have maxed out the levels. This doesn’t take too much away from the gameplay, but it does bother me a little. The physics in the controls are done well, if you go fast to one side, and try going the other way, you will end up sliding (metaphorically) until you are more stable.
Even with the upgrade thing, the controls are still simplistic and are very lovable.
Replay Value:
The replay value on TurtleFly is wonderful. The game records how many days you have played, and for many of us that really like this game, that number will never stop growing.
Summing It Up:
This cheap, addictive game is a must buy for all you arcade loving iOS owners, and even if you don’t love arcade games, buy it because you are a flying turtle, a dream come true! And it’s only $.99!

I've been an iPod owner for almost 5 years now, and I've always loved their products from the first one I bought! I love listening and playing to music, which is one of the reasons why i love apple so much, they have everything i could want! But guess what, I'm a PC ;)
