iOS Review: WifiTrak
Now, there’s much debate about the WiFi detecting software incorporated with the iPod Touch and iPhone. Most people agree that the signal detector built into the iDevice itself isn’t strong enough to detect all (or close to all) the nearby signals, which leads to tens of apps built, claiming to be the best that can really detect and connect to networks that the iDevice itself can’t find. I’ve tried out a couple of these apps, and so far I’ve found WifiTrak to be the best. You can get it here: App Description ($0.99)

Accuracy: 4.5
Functionality: 4.5
Organization: 4.0
Reuse Value: 5.0
OVERALL RATING: 4.5/5
Accuracy:
Well, obviously, this app is at least better than what the iPhone/iPod Touch offers without any wifi-finding apps, and it seems to be pretty accurate. However, sometimes I find problems with a single network or signal, which is repeated infinitely on the screen, usually a signal that is very weak. I’m not an expert on Wifi, so could this be a bug, or is it supposed to happen? Anyways good accuracy, just wanna know if this is a problem or not.
Functionality:
This app has good functionality, and is one of the best of its kind in the App Store. Connecting, disconnecting, searching, are all very good. However, I would like a faster connect. Often it can take up to 30 seconds, even to connect to a very strong network. This is the only flaw, everything else is perfect. 4.5/5 stars.
Organization:
Well, this app doesn’t need much organization, as all it is is Wifi networks. However, I like the way that the devs rank the different Wifi networks by signal strength, so you automatically know which ones are stronger than the others. Additionally, it is very useful in the way that the devs organize the apps, telling you if it is an open, password protected, or unknown network. 4.0/5.
Reuse Value:
I use this app almost daily, finding new networks wherever I go. Reuse value is definitely a perfect 5/5. Thanks devs!
Summing It Up:
This is one of the best wifi finders in the App Store. It has great functionality and a very easy-to-use user interface. Overall ranking of 4.5/5 stars.
