Editor’s Note: This tutorial was written and demonstrated for iOS 4.
One of the best features of iOS 4 was the ability to copy and paste text. Here’s a quick tutorial showing you just how it’s done. We’ll be using the built-in Notes app as an example, to make it simple.
Open notes and type in some random text into a new note. Then, tap and hold your finger over the text. An interface that looks something like the screenshot below will fade into the page after a few seconds, with options to select, or paste.
To select exactly which text you want to copy/cut and paste, all you have to do is tap either “Select” or “Select All.” From there, a blue highlight will display over the text that is selected. You can drag the corners of the highlight to change the range of text selected. Take a look at the screenshot below:
After highlighting, you’ll get new options in the black bar, such as Cut, Copy, and Paste. Just choose one of them, and the process is exactly the same as if you were on a computer; the text goes to your clipboard where you can paste it!
To paste, just tap the “Paste” button. That’s it!
