Mac Tutorial: Configuring Pre-Lion Keyboards

A few days ago, we posted an update for keyboards that are designed to work with OS X Lion, especially the F3 and F4 keys, which in Snow Leopard, were used to Expose and Dashboard, respectively. However, Lion comes with a few new features, and in the new keyboards, F3 is used to access Mission Control, while F4 is used to access Launchpad. When using an older Mac keyboard in Lion, the F3 button allows you to use Mission Control, but F4 still toggles the Dashboard. Here’s how to change that.
To do this, we’ll be combining the functionality of two different pieces of software, FunctionFlip, and Quicksilver. Quicksilver is already a very popular app that has the ability to remap your keyboard keys. FunctionFlip will allow you to turn specific “F” keys (in this case, you would want to use this on F4) into normal function keys. After using FunctionFlip of the F4 key, you can remap it using Quicksilver.
Both apps work just fine in OS X Lion. That’s it!
