Editor’s Note: This tutorial was written for Mac OS X 10.6.6 or higher.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Apple’s iLife, it’s a “box set” of three products, iPhoto, iMovie, and Garageband, which are, respectively, photo managing, movie editing, and music recording apps. I’m not going to lie, iLife is pretty awesome, and for those of you who have just recently bought a Mac preinstalled with OS X 10.6.6 or higher, here’s a way to get iLife on all of your other Macs (if any.)

The idea is very simple. All three iLife apps are all available on the Mac App Store, and when you buy the new Mac, the Apple ID associated with it automatically has all three pieces of software available under the “puchases” tab of the Mac App Store.

Now, go over to your other older Mac, and open up and log in to the Mac App Store using the same credentials. Apple’s policy on Mac App Store software is that once you buy it once, you can install it as many times as you want. So just redownload the iLife apps on your old Mac for free, because it was already purchased with the new Mac.

See? That wasn’t difficult at all.
