Editor’s Note: This tutorial was written for Mac OS X Snow Leopard, running TotalFinder Version 1.2.5.

Finder, the file viewer/manager that comes built into Mac OS X, has long been lacking the feature of tabbed browsing. What happens instead is your windows overlap and move around the screen, and I found that without the tabbed management I’m used to with web browsers such as Firefox and Chrome in Finder, the software was almost unusable for me. I guess I’m just one of those people who require everything on their computer to be extremely neat.

If this sounds like you too, luckily there is a solution now, that is compatible with Snow Leopard and Lion. A app called TotalFinder, installs as an addon for the default Finder app and adds tabbed browsing functionality. Luckily, we got into contact with the devs a while ago and got some free licenses for the addon, and we’ve been happy to report that TotalFinder is simply amazing.

Just install the addon and you’ll be set. TotalFinder will run you $18 though, but we feel it’s completely worth it.

That’s it!
