Safari Tutorial: Restore Safari 5.1 Tab Behavior To How It Used To Be
Editor’s Note: This tutorial was written and demonstrated for Safari 5.1.
If you’ve used Safari as much as a pyromaniac plays with fire (totally random, I know), you may have noticed something different about your tabs in the latest version of Safari (5.1) compared to previous ones. The “Open Link in New Tab” feature has been slightly modified. Instead of opening tabs at the END of your tab bar (like how it used to be done,) this new update opens them to the IMMEDIATE RIGHT of your currently opened tab.
Now, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. In fact, I’m not much of a Safari user, but Google Chrome and Firefox actually do the same thing. But I’m sure there are those who have appreciated the way tabs used to positioned, and would like the older setting restored. Apple didn’t provide you a way to do it, but have no fear; with more plugins for Safari, one called OpenAtEnd will do the trick. The tweak will do exactly as its marketed: open new tabs at the end of the tab bar. Just install it, and the tab positioning will be set to how it used to be before Safari 5.1.
You can download OpenAtEnd for Safari 5.1 here.
That’s it!
