This tutorial is ONLY for the iPod touch 3G and iPod Touch 2G MC 8GB witth sn0wbreeze 1.7. This jailbreak is tethered.
Make sure your device is on 3.1.2 firmware. You don’t have to jailbreak it for this to work. Also download the latest version of iTunes from here.
1. Download sn0wbreeze 1.7 here
2. Download the 4.0 firmware for your device here:
iPod Touch G3 32 & 64GB PC/MC Models
3. Run sn0wbreeze 1.7, choose “Expert mode”, browse for the 4.0 firmware you downloaded.
4. Go to “General” and make sure “Disable NOR Flash” is checked, and then next the rest and create the firmware
5. Download the iBooty folder for your device:
iPod Touch G3 32 & 64GB PC/MC Models
6. Move all files from the folder directly onto your desktop
7. Switch off your device, plug it off and plug it back in holding the home button. When you see the USB -> iTunes logo let go of the button.
8. Close iTunes
9. Run iBooty and prepare your device for custom firmware. 64bit users use Windows XP SP 2 compatibility mode!
10. When you see the Waiting for Custom Firmware logo (Snowflake) on your iPod Touch open up iTunes (must be 9.2) and shift + restore and choose the custom firmware made in sn0wbreeze
11. If all went well without errors and you got the USB -> iTunes logo again, close iTunes, open up iBooty once again, but this time choose boot it.
12. After it’s done (if all went well) you should see the snowflake and it should boot up. Now the USB -> iTunes logo will show again, this time with a battery in the top right. Open up iTunes and choose set up as new iPod.
13. You’re done! Enjoy your jailbroken iPod Touch!!!
If you have an iPhone 3G and you have this feeling that upgrading to iOS 4 has slowed down your device and that you want to go back to iPhone 3.1.3 / 3.1.2. Or if you are one of thoseiPhone 3GS (new bootrom) or iPod touch 3G / 2G (MC model) user who has upgraded to iOS 4only to find out that you cant jailbreak it can follow the instructions posted below to downgradeiOS 4.0 to iOS (formerly iPhone 3.1.3 or 3.1.2).

Step 1: Download the old iPhone OS 3.1.3, iPhone OS 3.1.2 ipsw firmware files. (Download links: 3.1.3 / 3.1.2)
Step 2: Put your device into DFU mode (not recovery mode).
- Connect your iPhone to your computer.
- Turn iPhone off.
- Start iTunes.
- Hold Power and Home buttons together for 10 seconds or so.
- Release Power button but keep holding the Home button until your computer recognizes a new USB device.
- iTunes will now recognize your iPhone.
Note: Your iPhone screen at this time should be blank (black in color), if not, then you are most likely in Recovery Mode, not DFU mode.
(Step 3 is for iPhone 3GS users only. If you are on iPhone 3G or iPod touch 2G (non-MC model), skip Step 3 and continue from Step 4)
Step 3: This step is applicable to iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3G and iPod touch 2G (MC model) which have their SHSH blobs (ECID SHSH) saved on Cydia for the firmware you downgrading on. If you don’t have your SHSH files saved, you cannot downgrade the mentioned devices.
So what we will do is to trick iTunes into thinking that it is watching Apple servers, while in real, we are going to change the address to Saurik’s server.
- Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ and locate “hosts” file.

Mac users can get to “/etc/” directory by going through “Go –> Go to Folder” from Finder.

- Open this “hosts” file in Notepad (for Windows) or TextEdit (for Mac OS X) and add this
74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
line as shown in the screenshot below:

Now simply save this file and you are good to go!
NOTE for Windows 7 and Vista: Start “Notepad” with Administrator privileges by right clicking on “Notepad” app, and click on “Run as Administrator“ option.
Step 4: You will now have to restore your iPhone or iPod touch to the firmware you downloaded in Step 1. Click on your phone icon from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left “alt” (option) button on Mac (Left “Shift” button on Windows) on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update” or “Check for Update”) button in the iTunes and then release this button.

This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your downloaded firmware file. Select that ipsw file and click on “Open”.
Step 5: Now sit back and enjoy as iTunes does the rest for you. This will involve a series of automated steps. Be patient at this stage and don’t do anything silly. Just wait while iTunes installs firmware on your iPhone or iPod touch. Your iPhone screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. Now at some point, iTunes will throw 1011, 1013 or 1015 error at you. This is normal, just ignore this error as the firmware has already been successfully installed on the device.
Step 6: Now you will need to exit your device from Recovery Mode. To do this, download a program called RecBoot (Windows / Mac). Run it and the click on “Exit Recovery Mode” button. Your device will now restart normally.

This is it, you should now be able to jailbreak your device on this older OS. For iPhone 3.1.2 firmware, you can use blackra1n, PwnageTool, redsn0w, sn0wbreeze, ultrasn0w andblacksn0w to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone and iPod touch. For iPhone 3.1.3 firmware for iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS and iPod touch 1G/2G, you can use redsn0w 0.9.3, redsn0w 0.9.4,sn0wbreeze, PwnageTool 3.1.5. Unlocking can be done using ultrasn0w or blacksn0w. iPhone 3.1.3 (on devices with new bootrom and baseband) can use Spirit to jailbreak iPhone 3GS/3Gand iPod touch 3G/2G.
A few days ago, Consumer Reports reported that they were unable to recommend the iPhone 4 to potential customers because of its reception issues. Although the iPhone 4 excelled in other areas of Consumer Reports’ tests, they lacked in reception and therefore could not be recommended. Yesterday, Steve Jobs announced in Apple’s surprise press conference regarding the iPhone 4 that Apple would be giving away free bumpers to all iPhone 4 users. These bumpers have been proven to help reception.
However, Consumer Reports still was unable to recommend the product:
Consumer Reports believes Apple’s offer of free cases is a good first step. However, Apple has indicated that this is not a long-term solution, it has guaranteed the offer only through September 30th, and has not extended it unequivocally to customers who bought cases from third-party vendors. We look forward to a long-term fix from Apple. As things currently stand, the iPhone 4 is still not one of our Recommended models.
The surprise iPhone 4 conference held yesterday mainly addressed the issues that the iPhone 4 was having, especially with its antenna. Apple spent quite a bit of time explaining to users that the antenna problem was not just an iPhone 4 problem, but that all smartphones tended to have this problem. Well, now they have compiled this information into a page on their website, which can be found here. Included are explanations and videos showing the drop in reception with other smartphone “death grips.” It seems as if Apple is determined to prove that this isn’t just their problem.
At the surprise iPhone 4 press conference today, Steve Jobs gave the audience a glimpse of the the space-age chamber that Apple uses to test its prototype iPhones. According to Jobs, this is the biggest room on Apple’s facility and “you have to build these rooms or you don’t get accurate results.” Thanks to EndGadget for the great photos (shown below).
Ladies and gentlemen, what you are looking at is what is called an anechoic chamber. We’re not going to get into all the scientific details (but if you would like, be my guest) but basically what a room like this does is block out all electromagnetic waves, and is used to evaluate phones (in this case, iPhones). Now this is really what I call futuristic technology. Looks like something from a freaking video game.
